Is support raising Biblical?

Yes! Paul said: “The Lord has commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel” (1 Cor 9:14).

Here are some examples within Scripture:

Jesus’ ministry was funded by some who heard Him (Luke 8:1–3) & He taught the disciples to depend on others while ministering (Matthew 10:5–15).

Paul asked the Roman church to financially support Phoebe, one of the ministers at Cenchreae (Romans 16:1–2).

Paul himself received support and was thankful for it (Philippians 4:10–20).

What about Paul’s tent-making days?

Paul did not always support himself by making tents. That was his second‐best option. In Acts 18:1–5, Paul began by making tents but quit as soon as he was financially able to do so. In 1 Corinthians 9:1–18, Paul’s point was that the Corinthians owed him support. He finishes the letter by telling them that he plans to stop by hoping they will provide for him in order that he may finish his journey in 1 Cor 16:5–6. In Romans 15:20–24, Paul asks a church he’s never yet visited to fund his journey to Spain.

Paul teaches in Galatians 6:6 that Christians are obliged to provide for the needs of ministers.

The apostle John encouraged his friend to support a crew of missionaries in 3 John 5–8.

The Levitical system in the Old Testament (the Levites were ministers) is based on the financial support of ministers by the rest of God’s people Numbers 18:21–24. See Nehemiah 13:4–11 for how upset Nehemiah was that the Levites needed to earn wages in another fashion.

Why doesn't the church or organisation pay you?

Each World Mission Continuum missionary raises their own personal support, travel costs, supplies their own equipment and works within the parameters and protection of WMC ministry leadership.

Raising support requires that missionaries build a network of relationships which gives access to more resources and more people with different perspectives, skills, and giftings. This allows the Gospel message to go further than it ever could by the missionary going alone.

WORLD MISSION CONTINUUM PROVIDES MISSIONARIES WITH:

  1. Leadership accountability: vision, planning, protection, and pastoral care of missionaries and projects.
  2. Administration: NGO facilitation of charitable donations, transferring funds, legal entrance to foreign countries.
  3. Financial accountability for missionaries.

World Mission Continuum works with apostolic ministries to build God’s Kingdom in the nations of Asia. Father/son Kingdom relationships provide the accountability and empowerment needed to fulfill the Great Commission in a hostile world. This kingdom-minded attitude and the efficient connection between senders and goers has made World Mission Continuum and it’s affiliated ministries one of the most productive Kingdom endeavors in Asia.
